About Knoxville Art Studio

Inspiring Creativity, Confidence, and Connection Through Art in Knoxville

Founded in 2016 by Professor Elena Sonbok McMillan, Knoxville Art Studio (KAS) was built with one purpose — to create a welcoming space where people of all ages can explore creativity, express themselves freely, and experience the transformative power of art. What began as a small studio behind her home has grown into one of Knoxville’s most loved art communities, offering classes, workshops, and art therapy sessions for children, teens, and adults.

Meet Professor
Elena McMillan

Professor Elena McMillan, founder and director of Knoxville Art Studio, is a lifelong artist, educator, and visionary. Currently teaching at Georgia Military College, Elena brings over 14 years of art education experience and more than 30 years of creative practice to every class.

Working on her Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership Administration and already having three master’s degrees in art-related fields, including an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Elena blends academic excellence with hands-on creativity. Her teaching covers painting, drawing, design, and art history, and her philosophy centers on student-focused learning, inspiring confidence and artistic growth in each student.

Elena’s approach merges traditional fine art techniques with modern, innovative methods — helping students not only improve their skills but also connect deeply with their creative purpose.

Art, Healing, and Personal Growth

Elena’s passion for helping others led her to pursue a certification in Art Therapy, expanding Knoxville Art Studio’s mission beyond skill development to include emotional wellness and self-discovery.

Her therapeutic art sessions provide a safe, encouraging environment where children and adults can:

  • Explore emotions through color and form

  • Build focus, confidence, and self-awareness

  • Use art as a tool for healing and personal growth

Each class is designed to help students experience the joy of creating, whether they’re painting for the first time or developing advanced artistic techniques.

At KAS, we believe that everyone has an inner artist waiting to be discovered. Our goal is to help each student find meaning, balance, and confidence through the act of creation.

Whether you’re joining us for your first art class, signing up for an adult workshop, or exploring art therapy, you’ll find a community that welcomes you, encourages you, and helps you grow.

If you’re ready to discover, improve, or elevate your artistic talents — Knoxville Art Studio is ready to help you every step of the way.
